Matt and Stacey met during their sophomore year at Babson College in 2009. Through mutual interests and friends, they soon found themselves at the same parties, Posse Retreats, kickbacks, and Babson cafeteria gatherings, but never knew that romance would be in their future.
During their senior year, by the luck of the draw, they became roommates along with two other close friends. In a matter of a few short weeks, the law of attraction took over and friendship turned to love. They bonded over Ryan Leslie and Frank Ocean, pad thai and sushi, themed dorm parties, telling drunk bedtime stories to their roommates, and Mad Men. Dating your college roommate isn’t always the smartest idea, but they knew there was something special about the way they could spend hours talking about family, values, life goals, and dreams. As with all college relationships, Matt and Stacey knew they had to make a decision as graduation neared. They knew the spark they had developed was worth a shot and decided to continue their relationship long distance.
After graduation, Stacey moved to Washington DC to pursue a career in consulting, while Matt moved back to NY to start a career in technology at Nielsen. The next 3 years was a true test of commitment and they grew together as a couple despite the distance. Their relationship spanned from NY to DC, DC to Chicago, DC to San Francisco, and NY to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They spent Thanksgivings in San Diego and Christmases in NY. They met up in Greece, Grenada, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. Their relationship grew to include Ham, their french bulldog (@frenchieham), thousands of rewards miles, scuba diving, and endless hours of falling asleep on FaceTime.
It seemed like the long distance would never end, but they were determined to live in the same city once again. Stacey was accepted into NYU Stern’s MBA program in 2015 and moved to NY, where she and Matt began to create a life together after spending so much time apart.
In April 2016, Matt popped the question over Sunday Brunch. Stacey's schedule had become crazy between school, a spring internship, and teaching yoga, so he knew she would be distracted. She almost canceled on him last minute to do homework, but thankfully he convinced her to go! Here's the video compilation that Matt used to propose:
